• The School District of Clayton’s elementary literacy curriculum is grounded in the reading and writing workshop. The workshop model strives to develop joyous readers and powerful writers by equipping them with essential skills, giving them the opportunity to practice these skills while reading quality literature of their  choice, having time to experiment with a variety of genres in writing, and by establishing a community of readers and writers who can talk intellectually about what they are reading and writing. After careful study and consideration, we selected Units of Study from Teachers College Reading and Writing Project as the basis of our curriculum. These resources are reflected in the reading and writing units at each grade level and in the grade level learning objectives.
